Volunteer as a Board Member, Sports Director, League Commissioner, Special Commitee, Fundraising or Coaching

We need your help to make sure your youth sports programs are the best they can be.

We need your help as:

  • A Board Member/trustee
  • Helping with Fundraising
  • An Officer
  • Chairing Special Committees
  • A Sports Director
  • Communications to Schools, Members and Players
  • A League Commissioner
  • Coaching

Why?

So that budding athlete in your house is finally ready to transfer his or her living-room soccer skills for their first taste of competitive action. Welcome to kindergarten soccer, sponsored by the Copley-Fairlawn Athletic Association.

Your child might spend the next 12 years playing on CAA-sponsored soccer, basketball, baseball and softball teams.  Who organizes these teams?  Who finds the coaches?  Who cuts and lines the fields?  Who makes sure we have uniforms and equipment?  Who works closely with the schools, local churches and governments for the great fields and facilities we enjoy?

How does this happen?

Meet the Copley-Fairlawn Athletic Association. We are an organization made up entirely of volunteers that provides youth sports ranging from little-kid soccer to highly competitive travel teams for middle-school children.

Local schools and churches allow us to use their property, but we are the ones who raise the funds to build the fields. We provide the maintenance – everything from cutting the grass to dragging the infields to putting down the white stripes. We provide the bats, balls, goals, uniforms and other equipment. We handle registration, tryouts, team assignments and the hiring and scheduling of officials.

Our efforts benefit not only your children but, eventually, the high school athletic programs your children will participate in. Few varsity teams can be successful without effective sports programs in the elementary and middle schools.

The problem is this: The better we do our job, the less obvious our need for help. The schools, the city, the township and the community don’t feel a burning need to get involved when things are running smoothly.

But the quality of our youth programs is tied directly to the quality of the volunteers – and, unfortunately, we are a migratory group made up of parents of youth in our programs.  As those players grow and leave our program, so do those committed parent volunteers.  Each year, as volunteers move on, we need to replenish our leadership with new, young and energetic volunteers to help us maintain and improve our programs.

This is where you come in.  Get involved.  Reach out to us and let us know you want to take on a more significant volunteer role in our organization.  Join us for our monthly Membership meetings, held the second Thursday of each month at 8:00 pm at the Fairlawn Community Center (the Kiwanis building across from City Hall and the Fire department).  Come join us, listen to how we administer the programs and let us know where your interests are.

Please help make a difference.
